The Group
The Orquestra Potiguar de Clarinetas (OPC) is one of the most significant ensembles from Natal, Rio Grande do Norte State (Brazil). It is a permanente group of the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte and has as members students, teachers and musicians of the region. This year the group is completing 10 years, and had continuously performing in Natal and different regions of Brazil. In 2017 the group went to the ClarinetFest 2017 (Orlando-USA) and was the first Brazilian clarinet choir ever to perform in a ClarinetFest. Their YouTube videos and social media have already reached thousands views from Brazil and around the world.
The group's repertoire focuses on Brazilian music, especially northeastern music – including genres such as Forró, Baião, Frevo, Maracatu, Caboclinho and Ciranda. Besides playing works by great names like Sivuca, Luiz Gonzaga and Jackson do Pandeiro, the ensemble also plays new compositions dedicated to the group.
Since March 2009, in addition to its concert schedule, the OPC is part of the "Música para Todos" (music for all) project. With the objective of reaching out for new audience, performing in schools, NGOs, nursing homes and places of great circulation of people. The group also has a commitment to improving social reality, bringing instrumental music to people, who otherwise, would not have access to it.
